On January 18, 2010, I had a dream that I was praying for people to find jobs. In the dream we were holding outreach meetings called, “Praying for Jobs.” When I awoke I thought that was about the silliest thing I had ever heard of. However, everyone I shared it with thought it was an awesome idea, and my Pastor and friend Doug Eltzroth, said, “You got to do it!” So we did.

We set a date of Saturday night, February 20, 2010, invited some musicians to entertain, and got the word out to the community by email and by being interviewed by a local radio personality named, Kim Wade. Then we waited to see what would happen. After the interview I started getting calls and emails with resumes attached from people asking me to pray for them. I started getting calls from people asking if they could help me pray for people. It took off faster than I could imagine. When the twentieth arrived I had a stack of emails and resumes from people that said they couldn’t make the meeting but would we pray for them. We had about seventy-five volunteers and visitors show up for the first meeting, and the prayer time was special and intimate. We met a lot of new friends and offered words of encouragement and of course, prayer for jobs.

At that time someone told me the Governor of Mississippi was hosting an Employment Expo at the Fairgrounds on March 23, 2010. I called the director of the event and asked what I could do to get a booth at the Job Fair event. He said they were only allowing companies to have booths that were hiring and was my company hiring. I told him I wanted to set up a b
ooth where we could pray for people to get jobs. He was quiet for a moment then said, “I’ve worked for three governor’s doing statewide job fairs for twenty years and I don’t think I have ever heard of a better idea.” So March 23, 2010 we had our first “Praying for Jobs” booth at the Governor’s job fair. During the event we prayed for 650 people that visited our booth between 9:00am and 3:00 pm. Since that first Job Fair we have had the privilege of participating in Job Fairs all over the state of Mississippi and as of 2012 we have had over 5,000 prayer request. Current economic and unemployment conditions have given us the opportunity to pray for and encourage many people affected by this economy. God is still able to help people find work, hope, peace and direction for their lives regardless of the circumstances we face as a nation.

I have been an ordained minister and businessman since the early seventies. I have been involved in evangelistic outreaches in the USA, Columbia, Mexico, Belize and Israel. I’ve done everything from passing out tracks, street preaching, and feeding the homeless to touring with Christian bands to reach the lost. In December of 2009 I felt a resurgence of passion to return to my evangelistic roots. “Praying for Jobs” is simply another tool in my long ministry of evangelism to reach out and encourage people to discover a relationship with Christ. I am seeing hunger and interests in the gospel again comparable to what I witnessed in the seventies and early eighties. I am finding that once a person allows you to pray for them to get a job that they often have more things they want you to pray for them about. Once again God gives a simple idea to help us proclaim the simplicity of the gospel of the kingdom.

Send me your prayer request today. I will be honored to pray for you!
